In Piraeus a two-wheeler is a practical answer rather than a style choice. The streets in the centre are narrow, parking is controlled, and the run from the port to Nikaia or Korydallos takes less time on a scooter than in a car.
The first thing to check is not the model but the licence. In Greece a category B licence — an ordinary car licence — covers mopeds up to 50cc and nothing above that. A 125cc requires A1; anything larger requires A2 or A. This is the most common reason a booking cannot go ahead, which is why licence category is the first line on every card below.
What comes with the bike

Which bike suits your route
Inside Piraeus only
M1, the 50cc scooter. It is the cheapest, the easiest to park, and the only one you can ride on an ordinary car licence. Its limitation is firm and cannot be worked around: mopeds up to 50cc are not permitted on motorways or express roads. For the centre, the port and the surrounding neighbourhoods it is entirely sufficient.
Piraeus and Athens daily
M2 or M3, 125cc to 150cc. This is where riding safely on main avenues becomes possible, which is the deciding factor if you head into Athens or along the coast regularly. The 150cc adds meaningful under-seat storage — a detail until you have to carry a helmet and a rucksack.
Day trips and longer distances
M4, M5 or M6. From 300cc upwards the bike stops being a city tool and becomes a touring vehicle: stable at speed, comfortable two-up, and able to hold a long run. For Sounio, Arachova or the Corinthian gulf, these three are the right choice.
For business use
If the bike is a working tool rather than holiday transport, the terms are different: monthly billing, immediate replacement on breakdown, and an invoice to the business. See delivery scooters and monthly motorbike hire.
Safety in practice
Helmets are compulsory for rider and passenger, whatever the engine size and however short the trip. Beyond the fine, riding without one can affect insurance cover in an accident. The same is true of riding without the correct licence category: if your licence does not cover the bike, the insurance may not respond at all.

Not via a motorway or express road — mopeds up to 50cc are prohibited on them. If your route involves major avenues or the coastal road, you need at least a 125cc and an A1 licence.
EU and EEA licences are valid as they are. Licences from outside the EU usually require an International Driving Permit alongside the original. Send us the country of issue before booking and we will confirm exactly what is needed.
One day. The daily rate falls over longer periods, and from one month upwards monthly hire terms apply, which also cover servicing.
Scooters from 150cc upwards have useful under-seat storage, enough for a helmet and a rucksack. For larger loads we can fit a top case on request.
You call roadside assistance, which covers two-wheelers and operates around the clock. Provided the fault is not the result of misuse, we replace the vehicle at no charge.
